Kegiatan Membaca Sebagai Penerapan Literasi Mahasiswa Prodi Bahasa Inggris Fkip Universitas Riau
Abstract
Being competence on reading as a part of literacy especially in English as a secondlanguage needs practice. Everybody practices in culture and societies where they live. In order togain the significant findings how someone does reading for literacy practice, we need to conductthe thorough study. This article is based on a study addressing on the following questions: (1)What are reading activities as literacy practices experienced by an E F L Indonesian student majoringin English? and (2) How are reading activities as literary practices experienced by an E F L Indonesianstudent majoring in English? Theories discussed are about reading and literacy. The findings ofthe research are: (1) Reading activities as literacy practices experienced by an E F L Indonesianstudent majoring in English are efforts in building the ability on reading and English based onsupport of the family in childhood and teacher in senior high school (2) Reading activities as theliterary practices experienced by an E F L Indonesian student majoring in English are ways done bythe family during childhood, an English teacher at senior high school affecting on her effort infacing her study a an English department student. The ways are itroduced reading by father andlent books by brother in her child hood, convinced her becoming good English department studentby an English teacher at senior high school, and doing reading in gaining very satisfactory academicrecord as English department student. Wliat the Subject experienced and did for literacy is as thereflection o f an Indonesian student's effort to perform her personal quality through reading. TheSubject's personal case might be useful for the other students and our country in doing readingactivities for their ability academically as an English department student. Therefore, studies aboutthe successful of English department students in gaining their academic ability by doing reading.
