ANALISIS PUISI DALAM MENGEMBANGKAN KOMPETENSI BERBICARA MAHASISWA PRODI BAHASA INGGRIS FKIP UNIVERSITAS RIAU

Abstract


Analyzing a poetry as one of literary works gives chances for language learnersin using the language learnt. This article is based on a research report on the exploration ofexperiences in learning Literature Analysis developing speaking ability of English Study ProgramStudents of the Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Riau University. This study aims tofind out; (1) What experieces are faced by the English Study Program Students of the TeacherTraining and Education Faculty of Riau University in analyzing poetries? (2) How are theexperieces faced by the English Study Program Students of the Teacher Training and EducationFaculty of Riau University in analyzing a poetry from the perspectives of teaching speakingprinciples and learning a language? A case study was conducted in order to answer thesequestions and the data were collected by conducting observation class. This study found that;(1) Experiences faced by students in analyzing poetries are; lecurer’s guidance, doing readingactivities by reading title loudly and silently, pronuouncing the lines of a poetry, understandingand pronouncing while typing texts, content, and analysis of poetries, using different colour intyping content and analysis, telling and discussing content and analysis, giving and acceptingresponse for the description of content and analysis, understanding communicative expressions,speaking fluently, and (2) Students’ experiences in analyzing poetries develop their speakingability based on the perspectives of teaching speaking principles and learning a language are;lecturer’s guidance, teaching materials, pronouncing in the process, oral communication,developing understanding, preparation for learning, the combination between prior knowledgeand knowledge through the process of doing analysis. This study can be as a reference forstudents and lecturers in terms of the use of learning content courses for developing speakingability or other skills. This study also recomends for further study about students’ activities inanalyzing poetry in terms of the components of speaking ability.
